the bearded sage seated on a naturalistically-formed gnarled chair, dressed in loose fitting robes with a double-gourd bottle tied to the waist at the back, his left hand resting on his knee and his right hand holding a gnarled leafy branch bearing two peaches, depicted with a benign expression with plump cheeks and a cheerful smile, the bamboo patinated to a chestnut brown tone, fitted wood stand
Condition
The figure adhered to its wood stand, the base not inspected. A loss to the tip of Shoulao's cap, measuring approximately 19mm; chips and losses to the leafy stems of the peach branch, with one loss measuring approximately 8mm. Further losses likely to a large section of the gnarled rockwork on which he sits to the reverse, the total approximate area measuring 90mm by 40mm. Some age cracks, scratches and general wear. The bamboo with a rich honey-brown patina.
