Description

  • 28cm., 11in. high
the flattened sides raised on a spreading rectangular foot, cast in low relief with nineteen panels, each enclosing abstract patterns of interlaced hooks and scrolls arranged over five horizontal bands and divided by raised borders, the narrow sides with further panels and the shoulders set with applied taotie masks suspending loose ring handles,  surmounted by a slightly domed cover with upright ring handle, cast around the rim with a band of similar interlaced hooks and scrolls, the bronze with a rich green malachite encrustation

Condition

With extensive, rich malachite encrustation all over, particularly mottled and vibrant to the interior. General, significant surface wear all over, with old chips to the foot, the largest approximately 5mm wide; and a crack cutting across the base, measuring approximately 25mm. Possible old losses to the tops of the mask handles; otherwise in good general condition.
