each rectangular panel raised on two short feet, the incised, carved and polychrome brownish-black lacquer screen showing an elaborate court scene on one side, with groups of ladies on palace terraces and Immortals in clouds above, framed by a wide border with eight four-clawed dragons emerging from behind clouds along the bottom, and auspicious objects and items from the scholar's table across the top and sides, the reverse with pairs of exotic birds amidst pine trees, rockwork and lingzhi fungus, framed by a border of confronted dragons contesting flaming pearls, fan-shaped cartouches enclosing landscapes along the top, and further scholarly items along the bottom
