the god of war reclining on pierced rockwork, his right elbow resting on the rocks and his hand stroking his long beard, dressed in long flowing robes decorated with a dragon seizing a flaming pearl at the belly, the contemplative face with downcast eyes reading the open book, the stone of a pale celadon tone with milky white veining and russet skin

Condition
The tip of the rocky phase on the reverse of the carving is chipped (circa 0.3 x 0.2cm). There is a possible triangular (1.5 x 0.8cm) area of loss to the underside but the carving is in otherwise very good condition. The stone is of a slightly more celadon tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
