Description

of gently waisted cylindrical form with knife-pared foot, painted in brilliant cobalt-blue tones with the scene of Jizha/Jizi Gua Jian (Jizha/Jizi hanging his sword) where Jizha is depicted kneeling in front of Xu Jun's tomb, accompanied by an attendant hanging Jizha's sword on a tree beside the tomb and few others carrying various attributes and belongings, all set in a rocky landscape with a waterfall and misty clouds, the rim incised with a band of stylised floral scroll

Condition

The base of the brushpot has been broken off and then re-stuck, incised designs of perhaps part of a chevron border at the base are visible above the crack. The bottom has a wide firing crack measuring circa 6cm and a pen-drawn mark reading 'D.1764'. There are minor glaze firing imperfections such as burst glaze bubbles.
