Description

  • Silk and metal thread
of rectangular form and vertically orientated, finely woven at the centre with a pair pavilions supported on clouds rising from turbulent crested waves, flanked by long lotus stems and phoenix, with mythical sea creatures emerging from the waves below, all reserved on a metal-thread ground, bordered at the sides by the Eight Buddhist Emblems, key fret and lotus sprays borders, with a rectangular cartouche at the top enclosing a five-character inscription reading Chuxiu Gong Beiyong ('Reserved for use in the Palace of Gathering Excellence')

Condition

The carpet has a knot count of approximately 80-100 knots per square inch and is in fair condition, with uneven wear and the foundation visible to approximately 20% or the surface, uneven fading and some staining and colour run.
