Description

  • Lapis lazuli
of square form, carved atop with a Buddhist lion lying recumbent with one fore limb stretched outwards, the broad mouth below bulging eyes and tightly curled eyebrows, the single horn flanked by a pair of rounded ears, the body incised with stylised flame scrolls, inscribed to the seal face with four characters reading yangzhi ruchun ('Keep it like Spring'), the stone of a bright blue tone with lighter inclusions and metallic silver flecks

Condition

The seal is in excellent condition with the exception of minor chips (circa 0.2 x 0.2cm) to the corner of the seal face and natural veining of the stone with associated flakes. The stone is of a slightly more greyish tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
