A CARVED HARDWOOD, CLOISONNE AND JADE-MOUNTED SHRINE QING DYNASTY

of compressed hexagonal form, fitted with pierced 18th century cloisonné panels, each decorated with lotus scrolls within the galleried veranda, enclosed by a low balustrade inserted with reticulated jade plaques and carved scroll pillars, all raised above a tiered pedestal with a band of jade panels, a lappet and lotus scroll, the top surmounted by a flanged crown surrounding a hexagonal dome crested with a stupa finial, the interior with an associated gilt bronze figure of Buddha, the back undecorated (3)

The present shrine is comparable to 18th century examples in the collection of the Summer Palace at Chengde, published in the exhibition Buddhist Art from Rehol, The Chang Foundation, Taipei, 1999, cat. nos, 89 to 91, Compare also an 18th century cloisonné enamel-mounted zitan shrine, sold in our London rooms, 10th November 2010, lot 219, as well as a related example sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 31st May 2010, lot 1966.
