Catalogue Note

This boldly carved lotus form washer has a strong sculptural quality. The finely articulated blossoms, leaves and stems are deftly carved in high relief with the veins of the leaves carefully incised. Although emphatically rendered, the washer conveys the delicacy of the leaves as they gently curve or fold into or away from the form.  A washer, similarly carved but smaller and with only one opening, was sold in our Paris rooms, 6th December 2007, lot 43. A lotus form washer of white jade and smaller dimension was sold in our London rooms, 8th November 2006, lot 357.
