Description

the square seal with angled sides, well carved in high relief with a large chilong clambering over the top, flanked by a smaller chilong and a phoenix on one side, the face later carved in reverse with the well-known seal of the Qianlong emperor's eightieth birthday, ba zheng mao nian zhi bao ('Treasure of the Eighty-year old who concerns himself with the Eight Signs') in seal script

Condition

The head of the phoenix (h. 1 cm) has been detached and restuck to the jade. Apart from the rounded corners, there is no other condition issue to the stone. The actual colour is slightly darker than the catalogue illustration.
