White" taped to the verso of the frontispiece, 1 page on his personal letterhead, New York, 23 February (no year): "Dear Mr. Oppegard, I don't like to sign books except for people to whom I am giving a copy. I don't like to wrap books for mailing, either, and I have no one to do it for me. So now you know what I don't like, Sincerely, E.B. White, P.S. I do like Wisconsin. Went through Eau Claire in 1922."

Also inscribed by Garth Williams: "May Stuart always come to your rescue at a dull moment — with best wishes, Garth Williams.
