Catalogue Note
First edition. As the title implies, The Cherokee Physician ... was published to be a practical guide to medical remedies. The book is broken up into three different sections: part one is on the human anatomy and general rules of illness prevention; part two contains descriptions of different diseases and their treatments; and part three has a list of botanical remedies used by the Cherokee.
Richard Bark Foreman (Oo-ya-lu-gi) was born about 1779 to Scotsman John Anthony Foreman, who was an Indian trader (born probably in Scotland whose family settled in Pennsylvania). His mother was a Cherokee of the Paint Clan: Susie Gourd "Kah-tah-yah" (Rattling Gourd). Scarce, Not in the Siebert Collection or any of the standard bibliographies; OCLC locates only eight copies in institutions.
