Catalogue Note

We understand that this has never been offered for sale at auction before. This is more of a portrait than caricature and shows great finesse in the drawing and craftsmanship, creating within areas of line a three-dimensional rendering, with dark and light shading. Caruso's first performance as Samson took place in November 1915 at the Metropolitan Opera.
