Catalogue Note

An apparently unpublished illustrated story, written and drawn by Maynard Dixon for Ansel Adams's children Anne and Michael (aka Skeeter and Tweeter).  The story was most likely written to accompany Indian moccasins which Dixon gave the two children on one of his visits to their home in Yosemite Valley.

Included with the manuscript is an interesting archive of Dixon material sent to Adams, his wife Virginia, and the children.  Of greatest interest here is a 26-page typescript of 7 short "Skeeter and Tweeter" stories sent to the Adams family for comment.  The typescript includes corrections in the author's hand.  It is accompanied by an autograph letter (signed "Maynardo") to the children and an autograph note stating this is the only complete copy of the stories Dixon has.  This typescript, like the illustrated manuscript, appears to be unpublished.

The lot also includes a small collection of letters to the adult Adamses; a note to the children warning them not to wear their new moccasins in mud or water; a few clippings, gallery announcements, etc.
