Pair of autograph letters signed ("Rodin"), each 1 page (7 x 4 1/2 in.; 178 x 114 mm), [Paris], 28 November and 28 December 1891, to the painters Camille Pissarro and Henri Martin Accompanied by: Calling card inscribed and signed to Octave Mirabeau, proclaiming, " . . . quelle grandeur, quelle beauté quelle immense poésie ce tableau est un chef d'oeuvre . . ." — Letter signed ("Aug Rodin"), 2 pages, in French, [Paris], 30 July 1904 to Monsieur Soullié, regarding the authenticity of three paintings: a Whistler, a Gauguin and a Van Gogh.

Catalogue Note

Full of praise. Rodin waxes profound over a landscape painting by Henri Martin he has been able to view thanks to Mirabeau. He writes: "je viens de voir complètement votre paysage. C'est à dire que l'emotion m'a saisi, quelle grandeur dans le jour porté . . . ." In his letter to Pissarro he remarks on viewing the landscape and connecting with Mirabeau.
