Catalogue Note
An ailing son and connecting with an art critic. Pissarro writes with great concern to his ailing son and suggests he travel to drier climes like Italy or Spain to recuperate. After consulting his medical book, the painter writes: "Il me semble que tu dois avoir une angine aphteuse . . . il faut que ce soit le médecin qui voye cela . . . Allons tranquilise toi et soignes-toi pour faire le voyage . . . ." In his letter to Monsieur Thornlay, he notes the shipping of paintings and then turns to commentary on the art critic Gustave Geffroy: "Je n'ai aucune nouvelle de G. Geffroy qui m'avait bien promis de venir me voir, j'attends qu'il fasse un peu moins mauvais temps je me déciderai à aller le voir sur les quais, c'est tout près d'ici."
