An idea about selling paintings. Ingres suggests an idea to sell a painting without disturbing 'l'ordre suivi." He suggests the artist make two pictures at a time. Every picture made with this end in view yields a part of a sum and you will have two pictures for one; the form thus preserved. Ingres quips; "je réponds du fonds pour un ami comme conscience et comme talent."
