Catalogue Note

On board the Queen Mary headed to the United States. Dufy's letter is nothing short of charming as he describes his experience aboard the Queen Mary. He writes: "Je trouve à bord la vie anglaise confort et calme ce qui me convient, je dors et je lis." He notes he has met a number of interesting characters on board including a gentleman from Buffalo who purchased one of Dufy's watercolors in Paris as well as " un Monsieur Lehman de New York dont le frère a un collection de modernes." No doubt Dufy met either Herbert or Irving Lehman who discussed their brother Philip's art collection.
