Catalogue Note

A letter of recommendation and advice. Einstein encloses a letter of recommendation (not present) to his cousin and advises him to visit Mr. Erich Marx: "He is also in a rather modest situation, but he knows this country and perhaps he has some ideas or personal connections which could be helpful to you."  Helping in any way he can, Einstein notes he is  writing a letter to Frau Kaufman and  suggests since his correspondent's significant other has such a good job perhaps she should not join him in San Francisco. He further offers: "If you want me to I will gladly  write to the Committee so that this case is not treated in the normal routine way." Einstein closes his letter noting he has written so many affidavits they have always been turned down of late. Instead he suggests his cousin's son quote Einstein as a reference.
