Catalogue Note

First English edition of Salinger's influential short stories

Raymond Chandler's copy with his "6005 Camina de la Costa" address stamp and "Aug 17 1953" stamped beneath.  Originally issued as Nine Stories in the US, Chandler likely requested a copy of the present from the publisher, as he and Salinger were both on their roster.
