Catalogue Note
Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688–1766) and his son Didier (c. 1723-1786), together produced this "portable" atlas for the use of the military. This is an expanded issue of the 1748 edition, which differs in the number of maps (the earlier issue having only 128), and in the title page (which in the earlier issue was double-page). The last section contains maps of the western hemisphere dated 1749.
