Small folio (12 1/2 x 8 1/2 in.; 318 x 215 mm). Engraved additional title, woodcut royal arms on title, 57 engraved maps by W. Kip and W. Hole mostly after Saxton or Norden, all but 2 of which are double-page, 8 engraved plates of coins on 4 leaves, 2 engraved text illustrations, woodcut floral headpiece on title and next two leaves; lower and fore-edges of first 3 leaves mended without loss, titles and some margins soiled, small fold-tears entering image in Devon, Wilton, Buckingham, Hertford, Middlesex, some fore-edge tears in Sussex, lower portion of right half of Hibernia mounted and lower margin renewed without affecting image, a few small dampstains or light inkstains. 19th-century leather in an antique panel design, spine gilt; edges and joints torn.

First edition in English, with the first state of the maps. The maps are printed from the plates used in the sixth Latin edition of 1607 but without text on the verso, and contain neither the compass roses, nor plate numbers (signs of second and third states respectively).
