4 volumes, 12 mo (6 x 3 ¼ in.; 150 x 80 mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait, engraved title-page, woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces; washed and pressed with residual staining and browning, a few short tears and marginal repairs. Full red morocco by Chambolle-Duru, triple filleted boards, spines richly gilt with raised bands, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, edges marbled under gilt.



The last edition edited and published in the author's lifetime.

12 volumes, 8vo (7 5/8 x 4 9/16 in.; 193 x 123 mm). Frontispiece by  Watelet after Pierre, and 34 plates by Baquoy, Flipart, Lemire, Lempereur, Longueil, Prévost, and Radigues after Gravelot; vol. 1 lacks text leaf  F8, some browning and toning throughout, occasional marginal staining. Contemporary calf, triple filleted boards, smooth spines gilt decorated with triple fillets and marguerites, marbled endpapers, edges gilt; minor wear to spine ends, a few joints dry and starting.  



The most renowned illustrated edition of Corneille's works, with Voltaire's commentary. Second edition. Voltaire conceived of this illustrated edition with his commentary, which was first published by subscription in 1764.
