Additional vignette title, 39 engraved plates, numerous text illustrations and initials by the author, no half-title as issued, with all of the "Vanity Fair Advertisers" and advertisements/slips called for by Van Duzer (except for the back ads in part 6 found lacking in other copies), most parts with original tissue guards; lightly browned, some marginal spotting, browning on plates, plates in part 6 loose. Original yellow pictorial wrappers, front wrappers of parts 18 and 19/20 without the year 1848; spines torn and chipped, covers soiled, a few backstrips mended. Blue cloth folding case.
