Lincoln"), drawn on the Springfield Marine & Fire Insurance Company, Springfield, 21 April 1860, accomplished by Lincoln in favor of Bailhache & Baker for $5, printed in blue ink on paper (2 1/2 x 7 1/4 in.; 64 x 183 mm) by Richards & Smith, railroad vignette at left border; neat cancellation slits.

Catalogue Note

William Henry Bailhache and Edward Baker were political allies of Lincoln and the publishers of the Illinois State Journal, which closely covered the Lincoln-Douglas debates. They also printed pamphlet editions of several of Lincoln's addresses, including the Cooper Union speech.
