8vo (8 7/8 x 5 3/8 in.; 225 x 136 mm, uncut). Hand-colored aquatint frontispiece, 4 aquatint plates, 8 engraved maps (6 folding), 2 folding aquatint plates of coastal profiles printed in blue, errata slip; some plates with a bit of marginal foxing, one folding plate with a short marginal tear. Half calf antique.

First edition, Sir Thomas Phillipps's copy. Weddell sailed further south than anyone before and discovered the sea that now bears his name.
