Condition

These works are in unretouched and uncleaned condition. There are spots of paint flaking to the surface of several of the works, visible in the catalogue illustrations, notably in the vertical view of the church, and yellowing of the varnish with time. Sold unframed.

The light and manner of these views reflect the influence of the English Romantic painters on Villaamil's style, in particular the landscapist and Royal Academician David Roberts, whom Villaamil met in Seville in 1833.
