Catalogue Note
Painted in 1925, the view is of San Quirce Safaja, in the region of Vallés, Barcelona. The artist was then going through the happiest period in his life, having married and settled in his wife's hometown of Vilanova i la Geltru. He would travel around the region to paint the surrounding landscapes with his bright palette in what he called his campañas, that could last for days, weeks and even months. His style was becoming more realist, but he was still experimenting with his lyrical palette and a rich array of hues. These paintings met with critical acclaim, and in 1930 he was awarded the Medalla de Honor at the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
