Condition
There are pinhole-sized spots of retouching visible under UV light in both works, notably in the portrait of the lady, notably in her body but also in her chin and left cheek. The latter work also exhibits hairline craquelure, some vertically along the grain of the panel, and minor spots of paint flaking. Held in decorative open-work foliate wood and plaster frames.

Catalogue Note
Ignaz Deutsch (b. 1809) was a leading light of the orthodox Jewish community in Vienna, and related to the artist. A banker to the aristocracy, Emperor Franz Josef appointed him 'Kaiser-Königlicher Hof Wechsler' (Imperial Court Banker), and Deutsch was an active philanthropist and champion of the Orthodox cause.
