Catalogue Note
'On Screens in Dining Rooms' was published in the Cornhill Magazine, which Thackeray edited, in August 1860, and later collected in The Roundabout Papers. It was a rebuke to a journalist who published an account of one of the celebrated dinners for Cornhill contributors in The Saturday Review. This section is a good-humoured defence of "mild and gentle" criticisms found in previous editorials.
