8vo (147 x 92mm.), 9 volumes, first edition, signed by the author as usual on B1 of volumes 6, 7 and 9, editorial correction on B2 of volume 3, half-titles as called for, volume 7 in first state with errata on verso of title, engraved plate by Ravanet after Hogarth in volume 4, marbled leaf in volume 3, nineteenth-century polished calf gilt by W. Pratt, spines in six compartments with red and green morocco labels, gilt turn-ins, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, some leaves lightly washed, small piece of leather affixed to recto of E4 in volume 3 obscuring a few letters, Ravanet plates very slightly cropped at bottom, without blank A1 in volume 5, tear to half-title of volume 9 neatly repaired, title in same volume slightly short
