Folio (363 x 261mm.), 20 mezzotints by and after Martin, modern antique-style full crushed red morocco, decorated and lettered in black and gilt, gilt turn-ins, new antique-style endpapers, new tissue guards, all edges gilt, repairs to margins of early and last leaves, some soiling, some plates re-margined and possibly supplied

Catalogue Note

John Martin's celebrated prints using his specialist mezzotint technique, in which he embellished the imagery through successive revisions of the plate, using different mixes of inks to obtain the desired effects.
The binding on this lot is specially created by Bernard Middleton, and reproduces in leather the design on the book's original cloth binding.
