Catalogue Note
Hart-Davis describes both Brasseur and Coquelin as French actors. Both pieces were included in Beerbohm's Book of Caricatures (1907). The second piece was exhibited at the Carfax Gallery in 1907 and the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1952. Nugent is described by Hart-Davis as a 'composer'.
This property (see also lots 123 and 124) was listed in Hart-Davis' catalogue as 'Private (Yale)'. These drawings formed part of the collection of Robert Campbell James of Long Island, New York. They were deposited in the Sterling Memorial Library of Yale University in 1950 and hung, for many years on the corridor walls.
