Catalogue Note

Virginia Governor Robert Dinwiddie's Proclamation of 1754 promised 200,000 acres of land east of the Ohio would be granted to those who volunteered fight in the Seven Years' War. Washington petitioned the government on behalf of the men who served under him in the Virginia Regiment for the distribution of this land and, as this document shows, took responsibility for ensuring that his former soldiers received monies owed to them.
