Catalogue Note

The recipient of this letter, James Butler, Second Duke of Ormonde, was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. The regiment mentioned, Ross's Dragoons, saw action at Blenheim, later became the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, and was eventually disbanded after World War I.
