Catalogue Note

Russell Flint illustrated two collections of W.S. Gilbert's libretti. The first collection, Savoy Operas (1909) included The Pirates of Penzance, Patience, Princess Ida and The Yeomen of the Guard. The publisher, G. Bell, would later issue individual volumes. The present piece is one of eight illustrations for Pirates and shows the scene in which the pirates seize Major General Stanley's daughters in the first act.
