Catalogue Note
Inscribed to the poet's American agent and friend John Malcolm Brinnin.
Thomas was first invited to tour America by Brinnin in 1949, when the latter was director of the Poetry Centre at the Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association in New York. Brinnin subsequently accompanied the poet on readings in New York and New England, becoming his agent and tour manager and also a good friend and sometime sexual confidante. He visited Thomas and his wife Catlin at Laugharne in 1951 and 1953, was involved in the stage productions of Under Milk Wood, and was close to the poet in his final days. His biographical account, Dylan Thomas in America, with a foreword by Catlin, appeared in 1955.
