Catalogue Note

Harry and Yvonne Lenart were active supporters of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and were major benefactors to the museum.  In addition to supporting capital campaigns, and various educational and special exhibition programs, the Lenarts gave a number of important Southeast Asian objects to the museum that today serve as the core of the museum's collection.  Having business in Italy brought the Lenarts into contact with a number of Contemporary painters and sculptors in the 1950s and 60s, and the Lenarts were also involved in the Committee for the Rescue of Italian Art which formed in 1967 in response to floods that threatened works of art throughout Italy.
