Catalogue Note

"Drawing is a way of seeing into your own nature. Nothing more. There are certain formal processes that one learns - learned methods that end up being a hindrance. There is no way to make a drawing - there is only drawing... Drawing is a concentration on an essential activity and the credibility of the statement is totally within your hands. It's the most direct, conscious space in which I work." - Richard Serra, 1977
