Condition

Very good condition overall with some surface dust. A few minor chips at several places, in particular to the goat's horns, the tip of his ear and the edges of the base. The marble shows some grey veining and a few natural inclusions.

Catalogue Note

Originaire de Milan, Rossetti étudia et travailla à Rome. Ses marbres à sujets mythologiques lui ont valu une réputation internationale. On connaît de lui son Esclave nubien (1858) au musée de Glasgow, et une autre version d'Esmeralda, grandeur nature, signée et datée, au Liebighaus à Frankfort.
