Condition

Overall good condition with minor surface dust and a few scratches to the surface at several places consistent with age and handling. A few minor chips to the edges of the base and a few lacks to the flowers in ther hair. The crown in her hair appears to have its original polychromy.

Catalogue Note

Cette allégorie de l'Eté est une adaptation de la Palombella, la belle Romaine Barbara Pasquarelli que Carpeaux a rencontré lors de son séjour à Rome en 1856, alors agée de 19 ans.
Parée d'un collier de perles à pendentif, coiffée d'une couronne de fleurs et d'épis, et vêtue d'un corsage resserré par un cordon, elle devient l'Eté qu'il exposera cette même année à l'Ecole des Beaux- Arts.
