Description

elegantly potted with curved sides gently rising to a rounded shoulder, surmounted by a short waisted neck and slightly everted rim, deftly painted in the Ming style with three phoenix in different postures, flying amongst blossoming branches of hibiscus, between further hibiscus scrolls at the shoulder and pendant plantain leaves above the foot, the copper-red of a bright burgundy tone

Condition

There are two vertical hairline cracks - one about 21 cm and the other one 19 cm. The latter one further developing into a V-shape extension (1 cm and 3 cm) which is only visble on the interior. The base has a star crack running across the diameter together with a firing crack of about 1cm. The vase is suffused with fine glaze crackles. The copper-red is brilliantly applied with very little grey tones.
