Description

  • Opaque watercolor
  • 13 1/8 x 11 inches
Opaque watercolour on grey-brown paper, depicting the flute-playing Krishna standing on Kaliya and being implored by two of the Naga's wives, within a cusped arch with scroling floral decoration in the spandrel

Catalogue Note

The facial features of the Naga's wives and Kaliya are close to those employed on a scroll painting in the Victoria and Albert Museum (Rossi 1998, p.99, no.38). This was found in Murshidabad and formed part of a narrative scroll of Hindu and Muslim themes.
