Catalogue Note
This carpet weight relates closely in form to a group of bidriware carpet weights from the Deccan and dating from the 17th and 18th centuries (Zebrowski 1997, pp.130-133, nos.158-161). As with this carpet weight, the group tends to draw on Muslim architectural inspiration in the form of the dome or the lotus flower. In this example, both elements are combined seamlessly.
