Catalogue Note

The tradition of decorating these architectural adornments with terminals in the shape of the heads of beasts and birds had become widespread amongst the metalworkers of both India and Persia by this period. This leonine head is of a type ubiquitous in many periods of Indian art including that of the Mughal period.
