Description

  • tortoishell, mother of pearl, wood
of rectangular form on bracketed feet with a hinged bevelled cover, the sides and cover inlaid with tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl, with panels of diamond, cube trellis and chequerboard patterning bordered by narrow bands of inlaid ivory bone, the top centrally decorated with a rectangle containing stylised flower motifs between two bands of scrolling arabesques, the interior with later velvet lining

Condition

In fairly good condition, with cracks and subsequent repair to the ivory bone borderline, some surface abrasion and minor cracks to the mother of pearl and tortoiseshell inlays, slight dent to legs due to ware, as viewed.
