Description

the re-curved double-edge watered-steel blade with a central ridge and multiple grooves, the hilt with stylised lotus designs at the base and pommel carved in the form of a crouching tiger's head with naturalistic facial details and eyes set in the kundan technique with rubies and gold outlines, the velvet-covered wooden scabbard featuring a pierced metal chape overlaid with floral and foliage motifs

Condition

In overall good condition, with minor oxidization on blade, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

The multi-fullered steel (jawhar) blade of the present dagger is very similar to that of a bicchwa dagger in a private collection, described as originally from the Mysore region, seventeenth or early eighteenth century (Elgood, 2005, p.176).
