of octagonal form, with central eight-pointed star carved in relief, decorated with a scrolling arabesque, emanating eight stellar points mounted with polychrome wooden blocks styled as geometric stars, lying between carved, scrolling palmettes

From a collection formed in Alexandria in the first half of the 20th century

Condition

In fairly good condition, with fragments of wooden inlay missing and ware around the rim, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

Identical in design and size to four in the Museum für angewandte Kunst in Vienna. Those come from the minbar made to the order of the Mamluk sultan Lajin for the mosque of Ibn Tulun in 1296 AD.
