Catalogue Note
The inspiration of T'ang pottery from China is evident, more or less directly, from Afrasiyab to Fayyum. Similarly decorated wares have been found in Egypt, Mesopotamia and Persia. This bowl, with characteristic palette and popular splash design is reminiscent of a group of bowls excavated at Nishapur (Wilkinson 1973, pp.58-60, nos.4, 9-11).
