- Gouache and ink
Gouache heightened with gold on paper, depicting a female figure on horseback riding through a landsape with a hawk on her gloved right hand, accompanied by a dog, laid down on an album page, borders ruled in red, black and gold, outer margins filled with leafy flowers in gold
Condition
In good overall condition, one or two very minor stains, otherwise clean, and colours and gold bright, some rubbing to outer margins of album page borders, as viewed.

Catalogue Note
This is a traditional representation of Chand Bibi, the late sixteenth-century Queen of Ahmadnagar who defended her city against the Mughals (see Zebrowski 1983, p. 233).
